A useful brief for custom sterling silver earrings combines the design reference with dimensions, structure, finish and planned quantity. It does not need to be a finished technical drawing. It needs to distinguish the details that define the design from the details that can be resolved during development.
For a brand developing an original collection, this gives the first discussion a clear starting point. XiKe works from sketches and references through CAD, sampling and a written specification. Design support is free. Sampling and tooling are charged and can be credited against a subsequent bulk production order. The applicable credit conditions, CAD deliverables and revision rounds are confirmed in the project quotation.
Start with proportion and movement
Send a front view and, where possible, a side view. Mark the overall drop, width and position of the ear attachment. For articulated or tassel earrings, show which parts should move and which should remain fixed. A reference photograph can explain the intended character, but dimensions make that reference usable.
If weight matters to the collection, include a target for discussion. A long earring cannot be assessed from its front view alone. Thickness, connections and the distribution of material affect the sample. Confirm the finished weight after sampling rather than treating a visual estimate as a production measurement.
What to include in the brief
| Item | What to provide |
|---|---|
| Base material | 925 sterling silver, with the required finish stated separately |
| Dimensions | Overall drop, width, thickness references and critical clearances |
| Attachment | Preferred fastening and any construction reference |
| Movement and weight | Fixed or articulated sections; target weight if relevant |
| Production | Styles, planned quantity per style, target market and timing |
Approve a sample against the brief
Review the sample from more than one angle. Compare the dimensions with the drawing and record the adjustments by location. “Shorten the lower section” is easier to act on when the affected part is marked and the revised measurement is written down. Keep the approved version together with the sample reference.
Our sterling silver tassel earring project shows this approach: reference photographs and dimension notes supported the sampling review before the order was confirmed. The lesson is the review method, rather than a specification that should be copied into every new design.
Buyer questions
Can development start from an original sketch?
Yes. Share the sketch, intended material and critical dimensions. The remaining construction details can be discussed through CAD and prototyping.
Do I need a fixed weight before asking for a quote?
No. A target or reference can guide development. The sample provides the basis for confirming the finished weight and deciding whether a revision is needed.
When is the production quantity confirmed?
Include your planned quantity in the first brief. Bulk production usually starts from 60 pieces per style; the final requirement is confirmed against the design and project specification.
